I'm Kurt, a Graduate Mechanical Engineer from The University of British Columbia. My passions include but are not limited to manufacturing and R&D, with a strong focus on sustainability. I'm interested in technology that helps transition the world to a more innovative and sustainable future.
I was born and raised in Vancouver, BC, Canada by immigrant parents. English is my primary language but I am also proficient in Mandarin and understand Shanghainese dialect.
Above is me giving mine site supervisors an assembly tutorial on a patented wheel inspection device that I designed along with how it is packaged.
This photo was taken at an open-pit mine site, where my team and I conducted field tests for a ram mount on a Komastsu 830E haul truck
A common practice I do when iterating in the engineering design process is redline drawings before making changes on the computer.
This photo was taken when I performed an equipment inspection on a motor during my water systems internship
I wanted to improve my hands on skills so I purchased a project car to fix. Some things I worked on included: installing new control arms, tie rods, sway bar links, rear bearings, cold air intake, wheel spacers, brake pads and rotors, sound system, serpentine belt, brake light sensor and O2 sensor.
I thoroughly enjoy an active lifestyle and one of my favourite ways to spend my time off during the summer months is to get on the water and wake surf. I also enjoy mountain biking, golfing, tennis and hiking.
During the winter months, I take advantage of the snow and go snowboarding.
I have participated in various competitive sports growing up including volleyball, basketball, ball hockey and ultimate frisbee. My volleyball team placed top 4 in the province of BC numerous times, where I was also awarded the Provincial Allstar in both 2015 and 2017.
I have played the piano since the age of 4, completing levels 1-9 in The Royal Conservatory of Music
